5 Steps to Hormone Health and Weight Loss!

Our hormone health effects our bodies in many ways but one specific way is an increase in weight. Hormonally challenged women gain weight around their middle between the armpits and the top of the thighs. Often their arms are normal, their legs are normal and from the neck up they look great! Hormonally challenged men gain weight around their waists and often are on their way to developing breasts!

Estrogen is produced in our fat cells. Estrogen increases fat cells. As a result more estrogen is produced and so on and so on.

Breaking the Estrogen cycle and then going on an excellent weight management program is exactly what needs to take place.

Step One Evaluate your hormones. Find out the ratio of estrogen to progesterone presently in your body. If out of balance, we call that estrogen dominance, then you will likely have or currently be gaining weight around your middle.

Step Two Begin an estrogen-lowering program. That will include of course increasing your progesterone levels with a bio-identical progesterone cream. But hormone balancing was never all about progesterone. Modulating and balancing estrogens if found to be out of balance to progesterone is equally important to your weight loss program.

An estrogen-lowering program will include:

- Increase your fiber intake. That happens two ways: 1. Eat as much as you can by choosing fruits, vegetables and whole grains as your high ?fiber carbohydrate choices and then add a fiber supplement (Fiber Source 7) to consume 30 to 50 grams of fiber daily.
- Increase the indoles (cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower) in your diet. That also happens two ways: Eat as much as you can and supplement with an indole-3-carbinol supplement (EllagiGuard). Target 3 servings a day.

- Increase the essential fatty acids (EFA?s) in your diet. They are essential because the body does not make them. They help balance prostaglandin production in the body and thus help regulate estrogens.

- Increase your overall nutrition by taking extra vitamin C (Super C Crystals) and by taking a concentrated fruit and vegetable supplement (Fruit and Vegetable Essence).

Step Three Eat 40/30/30. Incorporate a new way of approaching meals purposing to eat Carbohydrates Proteins and Fats in a balanced way at each meal. When we eat balanced meals our weight will normalize, our energy levels will increase and our hormones will be in balance. More information is available in the book ?The Formula? by J & G Daoust.

Step Four Get Moving. Develop a great exercise program with the help of someone who knows what they are doing. Tailor a program especially for you - one that you can do and are willing to make a commitment to keep. Most of us need to think in terms of keeping our bodies moving and staying active for the rest of our lives. Couch potatoes rarely are healthy.

Step Five Celebrate!! Men and women whose hormones are out of balance feel unwell. Men and women who have balanced hormones feel well. Achieving hormone health will increase your overall health and wellness and assist you in losing weight. You will look younger and feel younger!

Getting Healthy from the inside!

I talk a lot about getting healthy from the inside out with Plexus products; here's how it works.
The yellowish beige you see in the photo is visceral fat. Look at the pressure on the ankles and knees, how the organs are constricted, how the joints are held at awkward angles, and how large the internal organs are.
Plexus products target the inside fat that covers the organs and underneath the muscle (visceral fat) which can also lead to bloating and an appearance of a bigger abdomen on men and women, and gets rid of that fat first while preserving muscle, and improving internal organ function... Leading to more inches lost than pounds at first, and improved overall health.
Then, once the body rids itself of the underlying fat the outside abdomen fat will start to get smaller, which leads to more inches lost!! Losing inches and 10 pounds of fat is equivalent to a large sack of potatoes!
Get healthy from the inside out. Let Plexus help!

So how much caffeine does the Pink Drink have? How does it really give you that sustained energy everyone talks about?

One of the first questions I'm usually asked about PLEXUS Slim is, "Does the pink drink have a lot of caffeine?" Caffeine must be WHY it gives energy, right?"
NOPE!
The Pink Drink contains LESS THAN 2% of natural caffeine from Chlorogenic Acid extract (from green coffee bean). This is actually less than a cup of DECAF coffee.
I never knew how all of the "caffeine free" stuff worked, but now I do...
Chlorogenic Acid is a naturally occurring compound known to aid in lowering blood pressure and is a very important antioxidant for our bodies. It helps to slow the release of sugars (glucose) into the blood stream after you eat.
Typically when you eat a meal, all the glucose that is found in the meal goes into your blood stream and gets carried to different organs. Once your body gets all the necessary blood sugars, it will store the rest as fat cells to be burned off later. It has been found that chlorogenic acid helps to slow down the body’s absorption of fat from food and increases your metabolism!
This is also why Slim won't leave you with a jittery feeling or give you a crash later in the day. It's all about natural, plant-based, sustained, stimulant free.

Alternative Medicine – New Way to Lose Weight!

There is no magic potion to lose weight. In fact dropping pounds and keeping them off requires regular daily exercise and a change in eating habits. Practicing alternative medicine methods can help you become more limber, feel more energetic, and the end result or side effect, if you will, is weight loss.

Weight loss is one of the big topics-no pun intended-on the late night television circuit. While flipping through the channels after 11p.m., you are likely to come across several advertisements for weight loss pills and diet supplements, each promising to assist you drop those unwanted pounds and remove stubborn belly fat once and for all.

Let's face it, if these pills really worked, America wouldn't be the top overweight country in the world.

There are types of alternative medicine, which can help with weight loss, however, and with great results. While no alternative medicine is a magic solution, practicing these principles can help you become more limber, feel more energetic, and the end result-or side effect if you will, is weight loss.

Take yoga for example. The low impact stretching involved with yoga will help you feel less stressed, and as a result less likely to over eat as a result of depression or anger. Acupuncture has exact pressure points in the ear which help reduce cravings, and detoxifying teas and herbs can help you feel healthier, and the side effect would be thinking twice before deciding that you want to "pollute" yourself again with oily and fatty foods. In this regard, alternative medicine is wonderful for loosing weight.

The majority alternative medicines for weight loss come in the form of detoxifying teas, energy supplements, and vitamins. The exercise and diet plans are the basis, as they should be, for safe and effective long-term weight loss. There is no magic potion to lose weight. In fact dropping pounds and keeping them off requires regular daily exercise and a change in eating habits, period.

However, to get you ready for weight loss, here are some alternative medicine detoxifying teas and interesting supplements.

Take turmeric, ginger, and lemon-about a half teaspoon each and the juice of half a lemon, and boil it all in 2 cups of water. Drink every morning as a detoxifier before you start your diet.

All diets should consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, and buying a juicer is a great way to make a habit out of eating healthy. Please see your doctor before starting any kind of diet plan.

Visit your local food co op or herbalist, they can get you set up with all sorts of alternative teas and nutrition advice, and can refer you to a good homeopathic doctor who will evaluate you as to what your individual nutrition needs are.

Bovine and shark cartilage are two dietary supplements to hit the alternative market. Both have been used for years outside of the United States and Britain, but now are big business in the health food stores.

The most popular form of alternative medicine for weight loss isn't really medicine at all, rather behavior modification through hypnosis. Hypnosis doesn't make you rely on will power, that's one of the reasons it's so popular.

How hypnosis works is that it examines what is subconsciously holding you to the thinking and eating habits that keep you overweight. Hypnotists believe that if the root cause of the obesity can be alleviated, the patient will naturally begin to lose weight. It is actually a very efficient form of alternative medicine, and overall can cost much less than trips to day spas and expensive over the counter weight loss pills. Through hypnosis you can let go of fears that keep you from eating healthy, and begin to allow a positive energy flow through you, causing you to want to stick to the new way of eating and exercising.

5 Healthy Tips To Weight Loss!

The world is fascinated with weight loss, some for health reasons and others for cosmetic. No matter the reason, many people try harsh diets that never work, extreme exercise regimens that result in injuries or other weight loss program that end without success. The reason that none of these weight loss methods seem to work is because in order to stay with a program, you have to enjoy it. Not only that, but it has to be safe as well.

Below are 5 genuine tips to weight loss, which almost anyone can do without tossing out their favorite food or spending every spare minute in the gym. Realistically, any weight loss program will take time. If anyone promises you different, they are either not being completely honest or are simply uninformed. Follow one single weight loss program for 30 days, whatever it may be, and see if you have results. If not, move on to something else. In the meantime, check out several tips to getting started today.

Tip # 1
Walking. If you can set aside 30 minutes every day to enjoy a leisurely stroll, you will be strengthening your legs and your heart while burning some calories in the process.

Tip # 2
Use a mini cycle. These portable little exercise units offer the look of bicycle pedals set up on a metal bar, but without the high price or weight of a standard exercise bike. With a min cycle, you can pedal at your desk, on the couch or anywhere else that you can comfortably set and reach the pedals.

Tip # 3
Walk or take the stairs instead of an elevator. This is a terrific weight loss exercise without even noticing the extra effort. Something as simple as a few extra steps every day can go a long way where weight loss is concerned. The next time you go to the store, park in the middle of the parking lot and walk to the store. Avoid parking in the closest spot to the door, which is tempting, but opt to walk instead.

Tip # 4
You don’t necessarily have to cut out all of your favorite foods, but you should eat them in moderation. There is no single food that will completely hinder your weight loss attempt but, if consumed excessively, it may. For instance, simply limit your intake to one candy bar or, if you are being really careful, a miniature candy. There is no reason to cut out your favorite food when a conservative amount of the things we love can still have a place in our lives, including during the times that we are focusing on weight loss.

Tip # 5
Whatever your exercise routine, set aside a certain time each day to do it. Individuals who set a routine are much more likely to stay with it and find success than those who simply exercise whenever they have time. The goal to successful weight loss is to make time.

This article is intended to be used for informational purposes only. It is not to be used in place of, or in conjunction with, professional medical advice or a doctor’s recommendation. Prior to beginning any weight loss program, individuals must consult a physician for proper diagnosis and/or treatment.

5 Easy Ways to Boost Your Metabolism!

Exercise is essential, but you can also burn more calories at rest by watching what and when you eat.

#1 Don’t Skip Breakfast

The morning meal jump starts your metabolism and helps to prevent bingeing later in the day.  A cup of coffee does not count – the caffeine and added sugar may give you a bit of energy and suppress your appetite for a little while it is sure to back fire into severe hunger and you will be more likely to overeat later.  Breakfast should include complex carbohydrates like whole grain (granola or oatmeal), along with some protein and fat (low-fat yogurt or milk), will keep your energy levels even and hunger in check.

#2 Eat more often

Get into the habit of eating every three to four hours or at least four times a day.  Eating frequently stabilizes blood sugar, when blood sugar drops too low you want to eat…a lot.  By keeping your blood sugar stable you can control your appetite and keep you metabolic rate high.  When you go many hours without eating your body will compensate by slowing down to conserve energy…this effect hurts your weight loss efforts.

#3 Eat protein at every meal

Protein will help to reduce your appetite, it takes more energy and time to digest, in effect you feel full longer than eating carbohydrates alone.  Research shows that eating more protein can help you lose weight without cutting calories.  Try these protein possibilities: turkey on whole wheat; hummus and pita; vegetarian chili; fruit and nuts; or protein snack bars that contain 12 or more grams of protein.

#4 Hold off on snacking

Many of us grab a snack for quick energy when we are feeling tired.  But do not confuse true hunger with fatigue.  If you are feeling tired go for a 15-20 minute brisk walk.  This will raise your heart rate and give you a boost of energy.  Follow it up with a large glass of cool water.  If you are truly hungry have a protein and complex carbohydrate rich snack like; whole wheat crackers and peanut butter or cheese.

#5 Consume enough for your body’s needs

Eating too little slows your body’s metabolism the same way eating to infrequently does.  If you want to lose weight, do not slash your calories too drastically.  Instead, cut out some of the extras in your diet – things like soda, juice, packaged goods or candy.  Processed foods tend to be high in fat and calories and low in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Is Plexus Expensive?

Why does Plexus Slim Cost So Much?

This is the first question I asked myself when I decided to try out Plexus. The first month that I purchased Plexus Slim I had signed up as an ambassador so I went all the way from the beginning. This may be a little over-kill for some people, but there was a reason behind the madness that completely justified it in my mind.
One of the things that Plexus does is curb your appetite. You don’t realize it when you’re looking to buy the product, you just see the price and your natural reaction is, “Wow that’s expensive!” I do it when I buy a gallon of milk, so this is really not out of the ordinary. The problem is that it’s really easy to dismiss an opportunity if you make quick decisions like this without putting some thought into it.
Here was the thought process I had that got me past the initial shock.
When I started my journey with Plexus Slim, I was spending at least 6 bucks a day on lunch, that’s not counting the snacks, coffees, and everything else in between. So realistically I was probably spending 10-15 dollars a day on unnecessary junk. Let’s just use the minimum of $6 per day though. Do the math for a month’s worth of just the money wasted on lunch and/or snacks. $6 x 30=$180
$180 on lunch or starbucks or other junk just for the month!
That’s ridiculous and really a low-ball estimate. Using Plexus Slim kept me from thinking about grabbing a snack or coffee every time I got the chance. By taking the little pink drink, I was saving at the minimum $80 (it was probably more like $150) per month just from avoiding the extra costs that comes with impulse snaking.
So from the first month Plexus was saving me money and I’m not even considering the health benefits that make it so much more worth it.
This is how I justified paying the money for Plexus Slim. That’s not where the story ends though! Because I decided to buy Plexus Slim, and and do it as an ambassador; I was able to share my “secret” to living healthier with others and help them to do the same.
I was like a walking billboard for my business and this made me feel better about being a “salesperson”. I always made sure to take my Plexus in front of people (if you decide to sell Plexus be sure to do this). Because people are naturally curious, they would ask me about Plexus. So I didn’t have to be one of those annoying salespeople, which was great because they really just get on my nerves.
Selling Plexus Slim is different though, it has helped a lot of people. So I wasn’t really pushing a product just for the sale. I was actually helping people, and this makes you feel great. There’s nothing like getting a thank you email from someone you sold Plexus to.

Are you ready to start on your own path to better health?

You may not even know you have gut problems until you try Plexus!

I didn't know my anxiety, brain fog, blood sugar crashes, caffeine addiction, moodiness, impatience, sleeplessness, achiness, etc. was related to having an unhealthy gut…BUT NOW I'M A BELIEVER!!

I just thought all that was normal…"as you age" kind of symptoms. Nope! Get your healthy on! Message me and let's talk about YOU!

Change What You Crave By Changing How You Think: The 5 Step Mental Method!

Are cravings controlling your eating habits? Well, they don't have to anymore. Cravings are overrated. Learn how to use your mind to change what you crave. You will lose weight.

If I were to ask you which foods temp you, most likely they wouldn’t be ones that are very healthy. I bet they would be ice cream, potato chips, pizza, or something along those lines. In fact, in your mind right now as you’re reading, you are probably thinking about a food that isn’t healthy. Well, aren’t you? Stop for a moment and think about it……………….. The point I’m going to make in this article is that you can change what you crave by changing how you think.

Every person has a “craving problem.” But I don’t see it as a problem at all. I see it as a solution. Cravings are over-rated. They are hodge-podge and we don’t have to be controlled by them. We don’t have to feel temped by ice cream, cookies or 20-ounce prime ribs. Instead, we can be tempted by watermelon, pineapple, oranges or apples; foods like that. Think that sounds crazy? Well it isn’t and you’ll see why.

When you ask people about their eating habits, the culprit to their weight problem always boils down to snacking, picking, eating foods that are unhealthy or just plain over-eating. Then ask them what fruits and vegetables they like. There's not anyone that hates fruit or hates every vegetable under the sun. When you ask them how often they eat fruits or vegetables and it’s always a lot less often than the unhealthy stuff.

After I’ve gathered my arsenal of information, we do our thing. I’ll have them lay back in a recliner and close their eyes. Then direct their mind to a peaceful place, and within minutes they’ll be relaxed like never before. Then start talking about their favorite fruits and vegetables. Ask them to imagine taking a bite of their favorite juicy, ripe fruit and to feel the juices tickling their taste buds. Then say to their mind, “from now on anytime you have a craving for food, you will think of a juicy, ripe piece of fruit. And bingo!!! Next thing you know these are exactly the kinds of foods they start desiring. Why? Because anytime you close your eyes and bring yourself to a calm, relaxed place, your subconscious mind emerges, and it is this part of the mind that controls what you crave. Change your thoughts and you’ll change what you crave. Simple.

Let’s look at this from another perspective. Let’s say pineapple is your favorite fruit. Now, if you were sitting with me right now and I gave you a juicy chunk of it, you would enjoy it thoroughly. And you’d want more, right? Of course. Now, let’s say I reached into my refrigerator, whipped-out a piece of chocolate cake and said, “choose one.” Most likely you would opt for the pineapple because you just had a teaser-piece, which would make your mind want more. The fact of the matter is this: you enjoy your favorite fruits just as much as you enjoy your favorite junk foods, you just believe otherwise.

Again, cravings are over-rated. The mere mention of that devilish word always seems to conjures-up images of high calorie, high fat foods only because these are the foods you are most exposed to in our media driven world. Your subconscious gets accustomed to this and just doesn’t know any better. Change your minds images and you’ll change your cravings. Here’s a quick 5 minute mental exercise you can begin doing now to help you start changing the way you crave food.

Step 1: Find a comfortable, quiet place where there are no distractions. Begin breathing deeply until you are quite relaxed. Next, count backwards from 10-1, slowly. With each count, imagine that your mind is drifting deeper and deeper.

Step 2: After you have finished counting, imagine that you are relaxing by yourself in your favorite place. A secluded beach or a log in the woods will do the trick. Imagine yourself feeling so very relaxed and peaceful.

Step 3: Next, imagine a basket full of your favorite fresh picked fruit sitting right next to you. See it clearly in your mind, the color, the feel, everything about that fruit. Imagine taking a bite of that juicy fruit and enjoying it like never before.

Step 4: Repeat the following suggestion to yourself 10 times: “From now on, anytime I think of eating, I immediately feel a craving for fruit.”

Step 5: Count from 1 to 5, slowly, and when you reach 5 open your eyes.

Want to make it easier though? Just drink one Plexus Slim drink a day, its known to reduce cravings!!!

Count Bites, Lose Weight!!!

Is it too simple? New research found people who counted bites over a month’s time lost roughly four pounds – Just about what the CDC recommends for “healthy” weight loss.

Those in the pilot test counted the number of bites they took each day and then committed to taking 20 to 30 percent fewer bites over the next four weeks. Participants who stuck with the task saw results despite changing nothing else about their eating and exercising routine. “This study confirms what we already knew: consuming less food makes a difference,” said lead study author Josh West. “We’re not advocating people starve themselves; what we’re talking about is people eating less than they are currently eating.”

Candida has become a silent epidemic.

Candida is a yeast that grows in our gut and it very easily becomes overgrown due to our diets and therefore gets into the bloodstream. (Google leaky gut)

Here is what candida overgrowth causes in adults:

Migraines, digestive disorders, bowel issues, depression, joint pain, asthma, athletes foot, nail fungus, sinus issues, allergies (food and seasonal), RA, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, anxiety, skin issues, acne, sugar cravings, ADD/ADHD, poor vitamin absorption, bladder infections, acid reflux or heartburn, low energy, thyroid disorders...to name a few.

If you or someone you know suffers from any of these issues, know that there is hope!

Are you a scale stalker?

Are you a scale stalker? Stop counting points, and stay OFF the SCALE! The number on the scale does not mean a thing.

''Muscle weighs more than fat'' right? 💪Actually it doesn't...... A pound is a pound. But muscle DOES have more density than fat.....a lot more.

Most weightloss systems will go after weight first because they know what people are initially looking for. The problem is that those systems set you up for ''yo yo" dieting because you are losing muscle and ruining your metabolism by over restricting calories.
PLEXUS, on the other hand, is a cleansing system that works from the inside out, targets PURE FAT, not muscle. You will often lose inches before you lose pounds.

The root issues are addressed: weight gain, excess fat, blood sugar balance, gut health, inflammation, and much more.

Are you Magnesium deficient?

Magnesium is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies (followed by vitamin D). Approx. 80% of women are deficient in it! If you have muscle cramps, constipation, or have troubles falling asleep or staying asleep -- those are common indicators that you may be very low in this nutrient.

From a weight loss perspective, your body needs magnesium to move glucose from your blood stream into your muscle cells so it can be burned. A recent study from the University of Hawaii showed that as little as 400 mg of magnesium per day can help you lose weight 25% faster!
Biocleanse is one of my favorite Plexus products!! 😃

Why is losing weight so difficult?

We all know that maintaining a healthy weight is crucial to good overall health. Why, then, is it so hard to lose the extra pounds we pack on? After all, gaining them is easy!

Personal responsibility plays a part, but you might be surprised by some of the everyday factors that can sabotage your weight-loss efforts.

Reason 1: Finding the right diet can be tricky.

While the American Heart Association recommends a diet low in fat, many dieters find themselves missing the natural satiety that fats bring. Carbohydrates are another controversial issue.

Some dieters find that consuming a high amount of carbohydrates only makes them crave more. On the other hand, low-carb diets can leave some people feeling lethargic and even depressed.

Dr. Frank Sacks and associates from the Harvard School of Public Health recently concluded a study that compared four types of diets: high carb, high fat, high protein, and low fat. Their finding? According to Sacks, "No one of those diets are necessarily better than any other diet."

The bottom line is this: Expending more calories than you consume will result in weight loss, regardless of which food groups you take those calories from. However, for optimal health, you should choose a balanced diet that you can comfortably live with for the rest of your life.

Reason 2: The media sends mixed messages about diet and health.

Women's magazines are notorious for running stories about the latest trend in quick weight loss - just opposite a mouth-watering photo of a decadent triple-fudge cake.

What message are they trying to send?

That's not the only way the media sends mixed signals about our health. Have you ever been confused by the sheer number of weight-loss studies in the news, many of which seem to come to contradictory conclusions?

If so, you're not alone. With so much information, it's nearly impossible to know what advice to follow. The problem with a lot of the studies you read about is that they are sensationalized by the media.

For example, a recent study suggested that some women over 50 might need to exercise more than 30 minutes a day in order to counteract their naturally slowing metabolisms. The headline for this study screamed, "Women Must Exercise One Hour a Day to Avoid Gaining Weight!" Not only was this headline demoralizing; it was inaccurate.

The best policy is to turn a deaf ear to the fads and sensationalism!

Reason 3: The food industry sets you up to fail.

With so many of us leading busy lifestyles, it's no wonder we sometimes dine out for convenience. However, fast food chains and restaurants are dangerous territory for dieters.

Most fast food is high in fat and sodium while being relatively devoid of real nutrients. This results in lots of empty calories that leave our bodies malnourished even as our weight and blood pressure rise.

The unfortunate truth is that fats and sugars have a real impact on the chemistry of the human brain. These comfort foods can quickly become addictive.

Add flavor-enhancers like MSG to the mix, along with the largest portion sizes in human history, and you have a recipe for dietary disaster.

The obvious solution is to cook your own meals from whole foods, consuming as little processed food as possible. If you must eat out, choose smaller portion sizes. Some diners have half of their entrees boxed up before they even begin to eat.

Others order kids' meals instead of the unhealthy adult portions offered by fast food chains. As an added benefit, kids' meals often come with healthier side options like fresh fruit instead of french fries.

Reason 4: Well-meaning family and friends can do more harm than good.

Our loved ones mean well, but they do us no favors when they insist we have "just one more bite." They hate to see us feeling deprived so they enable us when we have the urge to eat unhealthy foods. Or they help us rationalize our poor choices by pointing out that we deserve a little treat, adding that once won't hurt.

It's hard to maintain your steadfastness in the face of such temptation. The best approach is to have an earnest talk with your loved ones. Let them know that you appreciate their concern, but that you need their support far more than you need a second helping.

Schedule occasional cheat days, such as special occasions like birthdays, when you will permit yourself a little indulgence. That way, your family and friends will know when to offer you treats, and when to keep silent.

Reason 5: Making and breaking habits is hard work.

Finally, it takes time and effort to get into healthier habits. When you first start your weight-loss journey, it might feel like an uphill battle as you contend with years of unhealthy behavior.

Start by making small changes. Instead of watching TV after dinner, record your favorite shows and go for a walk. Replace some high-fat foods with their lower-fat equivalents. Over time, you will get used to these changes and be able to make more without jeopardizing your effort.

Many diets fail because dieters make too many drastic changes too quickly, only to decide they can't live with the new program, which feels completely different from their regular lifestyle.

Remember, these are sustained changes, not quick fixes. When you ease into a healthier lifestyle, tackling one or two habits at once, the results will last a lifetime.

This is where Plexus comes in! The plexus range of products help you control those cravings, makes you feel healthier where you want to exercise more and more importantly, you don’t have to give up the foods you love in order to lose weight!

Obesity is killing us but using fad or extreme weight loss schemes may be making it worse!

Obesity is a physical state that refers to excessive body fat. Chances are you have experienced the frustrations of dieting at least once in your life, if you have problems with your weight. Close to a hundred million Americans go on a weight loss diet in any given year and up to ninety-five percent of them regain the weight they lose within five years. Worse, a third will gain back more weight than they lost, in danger of "yo-yoing" from one popular diet to another. The conventional approach to weight problems, focusing on fad weight loss diets or weight loss drugs, may leave you with just as much weight and the additional burden of ill health.

Today, an estimated sixty-five percent of all American adults are obese or overweight. Our culture obsesses about staying thin even as we grow fatter, but this isn’t about appearances. Obesity is known to be a precursor to many debilitating health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and gallbladder disease. Obesity contributes to as many as 375,000 deaths every year. In addition, the public health costs for obesity are staggering. According to researchers at Harvard University, obesity is a factor in 19% of all cases of heart disease with annual health costs estimated at 30 billion dollars; it’s also a factor in 57% of diabetes cases, with health costs of $9 billion per year.

Set Realistic Goals:

No doubt you have fallen for one or more of the weight loss diet schemes over the years, promising quick and painless weight loss. Many of these quick weight loss diet programs undermine your health, cause physical discomfort, flatulence, and ultimately lead to disappointment when you start regaining weight, shortly after losing it. Fad or quick weight loss diet programs generally overstress one type of food. They contravene the fundamental principle of good nutrition - to remain healthy one must consume a balanced diet, which includes a variety of foods. Safe, healthy, and permanent weight reduction is what’s truly lost among the thousands of popular diet schemes.

Some of the weight loss diet schemes reign supreme briefly, only to fade out. While some wane from popularity due to being unproductive or unsafe, some simply lose the public's curiosity. Examples of such fad diets include the South Beach Diet, Atkins diet, the Grapefruit diet, Cabbage Soup diet, the Rotation diet, Beverly Hills diet, Breatharian, Ornish Plan – the list goes on and on. These fad diets advocate a specific technique (such as eliminating a certain food, or eating only certain combinations of foods) in conjunction with the basic idea that the body makes up the difference in energy by breaking down and utilizing some part of itself, essentially converting matter into energy. This self-cannibalism, or catabolism as it is referred, typically starts with breakdown of stored body fat.
